Our History

The core Amito team have “been in it together” since the very beginning, meeting at University whilst studying Computer Science back in 2002.   Between them they have vast collective experience, and they have been a united, successful team in both the cloud and colocation hosting industry for nearly 20 years; constantly learning, innovating and developing best in class solutions.

In 2001 Ed Butler, our CEO, created the hosting company Rapidswitch, and was joined by the other members of the team in 2006.  Shortly after they designed and built their first data centre in Maidenhead, with 8 MVa across 9 data halls it was an impressive 30,140ft² facility.

With a drive for excellence, Ed and the team went on to set up icloudhosting and Everest Data Centres in 2011.  Drawing on their previous experience, they designed and built Reading’s largest, most efficient, and secure Datacentre in 2012, which is our flagship data centre today, a tier 3+ facility with over 1,000 racks in 60,000ft².

The acquisition of Crosspoint in 2016 broadened their offering to include a wide range of colocation capability, and the three companies branded as Amito in 2018 to become a comprehensive, full service hosting company.
